Throwback Thursday: Halloween or the 1970s?

With Halloween around the corner what better time for a truly funky Throwback Thursday?

Could this picture be anymore indicative of the seventies? I love how fun these outfits are! Although they don't look like outfits that we would see in everyday life currently, they are still representative of 1970s trends that have become repopularized. There has been an influx of bright patterns recently and a departure from standard black jackets in menswear. We have also seen larger pronounced collars buttoned up all the way in women's wear.

It is always fun to take a glance into a decade, especially one as diverse as the seventies. A huge thank you to Maryann for sharing this fun vintage moment! Heres hoping it provides you with some Halloween inspiration!

Re-vitalizing a defunct fashion house can be a difficult task. Take Halston for example. By the time Roy Halston Frowick died in 1990, he had long since sold the rights to his name and none of the five following designers could carry on and continue the Halston line.With the 7th incarnation of the label under yet another new designer, and Sarah Jessica Parker int he driver's seat, the label is already a huge comeback success.

Can Biba do the same? Ms Barbara Hulanicki founded Biba in 1964 and by 1974 it was attracting 1 million customers a week to it's High Street Kensington store. However, due to bad business decisions and financial troubles, the store closed in 1975 and Barbara sold the trademark name. There was an earlier attempt to revive the label, but this time the House of Fraser seems to be poised to become successful. Biba is an extremely collectible label and vintage garments are highly sought after. Let's hope this new line is as successful as the old one!

Kick Up Those Heels

Spring is around the corner. I just love this time of year when there is little or no snow left on the ground, the sun shines and we can rid ourselves of a few layers of winter wear - particularly the heavy winter boots. (Assuming you live in the winterized seasons!)

My outdoor winter wardrobe tends to favor the practical. It only makes sense in a city that has icy sidewalks and slushy lawns - those big ol' galoshes are the choice for footwear. But now as the sidewalks are bare I can pull out my high heeled boots and wear them without the fear of slipping on the ice! It is still cool enough for boots where they do not look out of place, and the safety factor is back on the streets!

Couldn't you see wearing these fantastic butterscotch boots with a great skirt right now? Time to rid ourselves of dreary pants for a bit and kick up our heels in skirts!

Chevron Saves Winter

The last kick at winter...perhaps you are tired of the season, but actually, here in Toronto, it has been very mild. Only a handful of snowfalls - certainly nothing compared to how the US east coast has been hit. We received that the year before, so I'm enjoying the break!

This jacket from Ballyhoo Vintage is a great way to brighten up the winter blahs. Even with its muted color palette, the stripes catch the eye. Referred to as a chevron pattern, this is faux fur and jersey with a zipper front and leather tie belt. Just enough interest in the pattern to draw your mind away from the snow and cold.

1960s - Averarado Bessi Silk Jersey Dress

Averarado Bessi was a former designer for Emilio Pucci, hence the familiar pattern on this dress. The later 60s also had the influence of the hippie style and this couture dress incorporates boho flavors while keeping the dress very elegant. Probably worn by a well-heeled lady, I was immediately taken with the soft, buttery fabric and silk lining. This must feel incredible on the skin!

1970s - Bohemian Crystal Pendant Necklace

This necklace is made from Bohemian crystals and it was the size of the pendant that struck me. 7 cm in diameter, this large style pendant was becoming very popular in the 70s. Simple but striking, the shades of the crystals are very typical of the 70s. I can see this on a fabulous gown.

1980s - Retro Charles Glueck Of New York Sequined Top

The early 80s was defined by shiny workout wear and gym enthusiasts. I love this top as it seems to bring in the 80s covered in sequins, but maintains the simpler lines that are required for ease of movement. This top has yet to be disturbed by the latter part of the 80s and the big power suits with door crashing shoulder pads.
