Open Up Your Heart and Let the Sunshine In...

 ....So let the sunshine in,
Face it with a grin,
Smilers never lose,
And frowners never win,
So let the sunshine in,
Face it with a grin,
Open up your arms and let the sunshine in...

I find myself humming that chorus all the time.  I don't know why.  Even in the depths of despair or during the deep freeze of winter, I've hummed that bubble gum song made famous by Pebbles and Bam Bam.  Now that the weather has suddenly become amazing, I can sing that song and really mean it!  Last year, the "Flintstones" celebrated its 50 year anniversary.  We may not think of this amazing show as being all that musical in nature, but when you think back, there were a lot of funny tunes that have stayed in our mind.

I remember a very strange singing group called "The Way-outs" who had a famous single that went something like this..."way out, WAY OUT, that's where the fun is, way out!"  When the Gruesomes helped the Flintstones to be rid of some hillbilly friends, they sang a take-off of the Beatles song "She Loves You" but it was called 'bug music' and the lyrics were quite simple -"I said ya ya ya, She said ya ya ya, We said ya ya ya, AAAHHHH" (repeat forever).  One of my favourite singing episodes was when the Flintstones and Rubbles went camping to Shangri-la-di-da and found themselves in the middle of a worldwide boyscout jamboree.  Fred led a sing-a-long to "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and it led to choruses being sung in multiple languages.

The Flintstones were an integral part of my childhood.  May it live on forever in our minds.
