Closet Day Fan

I admit it - I'm a closet Doris Day fan. From her early songs such as Sentimental Journey to her Doris Day Show and 'Pillow' movies with Rock Hudson, she is still the number one box-office female star of all time.

And who can blame her! The range of Doris Day’s work was without peer - she is what is considered a triple threat in Hollywood as she could sing, dance and act. Her films are varied in subject and character and she fulfilled everything with her usual hard work and extraordinary talent.

Her singing voice of course is beautiful as is her speaking voice, which has a raspy almost breathy tone to it. A beautiful blonde, she is now 88 years of age, living near Carmel, California. Married 4 times, she has recovered from some major life setbacks, one of which was the fraud put upon her by her 3rd husband and her attorney. A lawsuit ensued, lasting well into the 1980s of which Ms. Day was successful in recouping millions of lost, hard earned money.

Born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, her stage name did not change until working for bandleader Barney Rapp in 1939. Rapp felt her surname was too long for marquees and after the first song she performed for him was Day After Day, her stage name was set. The two songs most will associate with her are Sentimental Journey and Que Sera Sera, of which she was apparently not very fond of!

An animal rights activist, her full-time career is her work with animals, and her non-profit organizations, the Doris Day Animal Foundation (established in 1998) and the Doris Day Animal League (which recently merged with The Humane Society of the United States). She also owns the Cypress Inn in Carmel, California.

Have a look at the many websites dedicated to her.

You're not in that closet by yourself, I've long been a big fan of Doris Day's too. In fact, on those random days when I'm suddenly struck with the urge to go from ginger to Swedish blonde, Doris is one of the main sources of inspiration that sets the blonde angel whispering in my ear ;D

Big hugs & cheerful Thursday wishes,
♥ Jessica

The closet is getting very crowded. Doris Day was my role model as a child. I told my mother at one point that I wouldn't go to a movie unless Doris Day or Sandra Dee was in it. Where have the wholesome icons for young girls gone?
