Summer Cool

Bookmark and Share

Husband and I wanted to do some retail therapy over the weekend.  We are looking for some items for the living room.  They seem hard to find at a decent price.  And wouldn't you know it, shopping for one thing led to some other interesting finds!  At a local home accessories store, we saw some fun, retro and vintage inspired items we'd love to own ourselves!

Love this retro style cooler for the deck.  Its simple design is perfect for that weekend BBQ.  The storage rack and built-in bottle opener and lid disposal container are such sensible ideas.  I love that there are 2 openings and that it's on legs.  No more painful bending down to see what's cool to drink.  The bright blue is so cheery too!

Here is the cooler again with a different colour scheme and cute embellishment.  Its affordable price makes it possible to have more than one in one family!

At the same store, I saw these beauties.  I just love the graphic quality of the Union Jack on household items.  These garbage bins are stylish on their own, but painted like this made me want to take one home right away.

We then ventured into a rather dusty little antique store nearby, tucked away on an industrial street.  Here I found an old/new friend.  What time is it?  It's always Elvis time!

That's Another One Off My Bucket List!

Bookmark and Share

Hello everyone.  Sorry for the delay in posting.  I underestimated how tiring it was to fly the red eye and adjust to jet lag.

We're here!

We got back from our crazy trip to Las Vegas. Husband and I can both agree that the best part for us was renewing our vows.  We couldn't have dreamed that it would go so well.

The Chapel was so professional, location was wonderfully cheesy and intimate and Elvis himself, risen from the dead, walked me up the aisle while singing one of my favourites "Can't Help Falling In Love".  I was practically swooning from his charm and his stunningly retro powder blue suit!

We were especially touched by the amazing thoughtfulness of Veronica and her boyfriend Alex.  They secretly went out the morning of the wedding and got me a beautiful bouquet and boutonniere for Husband.  This arrangement was more beautiful than anything I had ever seen out of a Martha Stewart magazine.

This whole retro experience is a dream realised, one item checked off my bucket list.  I am especially happy and grateful that Husband loved it too and that our good friends (Julianna, Veronica and Alex) could attend.

Holiday in Vegas

Hi all!
We're off to vegas for a bit of R&R, gambling, touring and to celebrate Carol and Jamie's wedding vow renewals with Elvis.
Because as we all know, Elvis is still alive.

Thank you....thank you very much. (Insert Elvis voice here.)

Messes with Dresses

Bookmark and Share

Ah....the aftermath!  My friend and I went to Veronica's place one Saturday afternoon for some serious female bonding.  We preened in front of a mirror and tried on a lot of pretty dresses in Veronica's inventory, in preparation for our trip to Las Vegas, where I will play the vintage inspired bride, and they, the retro maids of honour.  I don't remember the last time I did such an indulgent and fun thing with just the girls.

We anticipate this trip to be a lot of fun as well as an opportunity to bond with Elvis and to showcase what "Some Like It Vintage" has to offer!  The five of us will all be perfectly decked out.  Even the men will be festive in their vintage Hawaiian shirts.

Well, IT'S NOW OR NEVER.  I won't be CRYING IN THE CHAPEL as I CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE with the notion of being a little DEVIL IN DISGUISE.  I'm ALL SHOOK UP and my little WOODEN HEART will grow 3 sizes bigger on the big day!  MY WISH CAME TRUE when this trip became a reality.  So I'm gonna ROCK-A-HULA BABY!  You'll read all about it when it's all said and done!

Thank you, thank you very much...

VEGAS OR BUST!

We've finally booked it!  We're on our way to Las Vegas for some fun in Sin City.  We're also planning to renew our vows by Elvis.  We're doubly happy that Veronica and her boyfriend, along with a girlfriend of mine, will be joining us on this fun and retro journey.  Veronica and I are planning on having a girly afternoon for me to try on some of her dresses for "the big day"!  Stay tuned for future blogs with pictures!  After talking about it for so many years, I can't believe that we're actually doing it.

Husband has resigned himself to the fact that this potentially tacky journey will happen, so he's getting into the spirit of things.  Poor guy.  Many have suggested he go retro by donning a cool outfit - a la Grease or similar for the ceremony.  But a leather jacket in the heat of the desert seems like cruel and unusual punishment!  Besides, it's not really about that.  The surroundings will be distraction enough.  After all, the core of what we want to do is about being grateful to have each other and to celebrate 16 years of wonderful marriage.

We're now in the process of creating an agenda.  I'm sure there will be plenty of eating, drinking and laying around by the pool.  In the evenings, we are mulling over a show that features crooners, a traditional ventriloquist act or the Vegas hit - Cirque du Soleil's "O".

A ceremony at Viva Las Vegas Chapel
It looks dreamy and tacky!

We still haven't finalized the location for the vow renewal.  I had originally wanted 'Graceland Chapel'.  Hey, if Jon Bon Jovi got hitched there, that's good enough for me!  But after doing a bit of research, 'Viva Las Vegas Chapel' looks good as well.  I'd love any recommendations you might have!  We're counting the days...

VIVA, LAS VEGAS!

Graceland Wedding Chapel PictureNext year my other half and I will hit a milestone wedding anniversary. For years I’ve wanted to celebrate this one in Las Vegas where we can renew our vows by an Elvis impersonator “man of the cloth” at the Graceland Chapel. Honestly, this exists and awaits you in the city of sin!

It’s funny that when I think of Elvis Presley, I instantly visualize the persona rather than his music.  I personally prefer “thin Elvis” when he did the beach movies with Ann Margret.  But nobody does “thin Elvis”.  Most impersonators prefer the flashy and hefty one with the sparkly costumes, big hair and sideburns. Some might say that he is bigger now than when he was alive. Graceland has become a sort of mecca for the devoted. People want to curl their lips, eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches and swing their hips in that signature way.

What is it about this southern man whose light continues to burn so bright even today? I think that in the years to come, the only other performer who could hold a candle to his fame posthumously is Michael Jackson. I can already see it happening. I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand the unstoppable mania in the same way I shake my head at women my mother’s age who still swoon over Tom Jones, Wayne Newton and the late Liberace.

Don’t get me wrong! The minute I enter Vegas, I’ll be heading straight for the box office to order my Wayne Newton tickets along with any featuring Cirque du Soleil. What can I say? I’m cheesy that way.

Thank you, thank you very much!
