Taking Time to Smell the Roses

I live on a lovely lane by the sea, and on my morning walk I pass by a home with a beautiful rose garden. Roses fill this yard and the owners have made sure to plant a row of roses right by the fence so people walking by can appreciate the smell. In this yard I see crimson, peach, yellow and white and some colors are divine mixes of two or three.

This made me think today about our love affair with the rose, and how it has been translated into fashion. Some roses are bright and bold and others are dainty and delicate. There are tea roses, cabbage roses and wild roses. We've managed to represent just about every type of rose into the garments we've worn over the years and I've selected a few lovely rose adorned pieces of vintage fashion for your enjoyment from members of the Vintage Fashion Guild. http://www.vintagefashionguild.org.

Dresses for Home

I think we can all agree, there is something so cozy and comfortable about cotton. Cool, absorbent and easy to care for, cotton is the principle clothing fibre of the world.

Vintage ladies knew what they were doing when wearing cotton dresses during the day - particularly for housework. The dresses were easy to wash and clean up after a day of work. So speaking of work, after you ladies are done with your day at the office, wouldn't it be nice to come home and just slip on a comfortable cotton dress? I think so and do it all the time. Out of the office garb and into a housedress brings forth an anchored domesticity - that cocoon feeling we enjoy. A summer cotton dress with bare feet and a cocktail in hand....what could be more delightful?

All these cotton beauties are available at Rusty Zipper.

Whiskey A Go Go

If you are not familiar with Whiskey A Go Go, it is a legendary rock club on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, California. It has played host since 1964 to some of rock and roll's most legendary folk: Janis Joplin, The Doors and Led Zeppelin. Oh to have been trippin' in that club in the 60s!

This little online shop, Threads in Time has a cute collection of Go-Go dresses. Those wonderful mini-mod style dresses often worn with boots. Think Nancy Sinatra and "These Boots Were Made For Walking" - but please don't mention the Jessica Simpson version...

The dresses were mostly characterized by bright colors, often with geometric designs and finished with belts. As long as they were bright, they could be seen by those watching the Go-Go dancers in clubs of the day.

Feel like dancing? These are now available, each $45.
