Shirley MacLaine Receives AFI Award

Bookmark and Share
MacLaine worked closely with Edith Head at Paramount and Universal studios.

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of holding court with the fabulous Shirley MacLaine. Part Canadian, she draws those around her gently and humorously, and is an absolute pleasure to chat with. She enchanted us with her stories.

As she will shortly be receiving the AFI Life Achievement Award, this is a little walk down memory lane.

An early academy award nomination and win was for the movie The Apartment with Jack Lemmon. Her pixie haircut is still a stylish, modern, young and fresh look - one I continue to admire and every once in awhile, think about doing again!

Ms. Maclaine was considered an unofficial member of the infamous Rat Pack, along with Angie Dickinson, Marilyn Monroe and Juliette Prowse. Oh to have been a lady amongst that group of men - the stories she has!

Her later years have been a little pre-occupied with her affinity for spiritualism - she has authored many books on the subject. I prefer to see her as an exceptional actress with a unique and fun life. She is headed to Downton Abbey next, to play a role opposite the great Maggie Smith.

Ms MacLaine, I hope you never stop acting - you are fabulous!
