It was in the news recently that numerous items belonging to Wallis Simpson will be auctioned off later this month in London.  Wallis' role in the abdication of King Edward VIII are stuff of romance novels.  This decision literally changed the face of the English Monarchy.

Aside from all the historical drama and seriousness of her situation, she was quite a fashion icon, one who still inspires designers today.  She was quoted as saying "I'm not a beautiful woman. I'm nothing to look at. So the only thing I can do is dress better than everyone else."  And that she did.  This American socialite and divorceé was famous for her stylish sense of fashion.  Simpson's signature style was a successful blend of Parisian chic and the tailored simplicity of English fashions.  Her emsembles were always meticulously put together with sometimes dramatic jewellery to add that sparkle.

This upcoming auction is probably being orchestrated to occur before the biggest and brightest royal wedding since Charles and Diana.  Love her or hate her, Wallis Simpson sure had gumption!
