Neighbourly Love

We are lucky to live on a street where there's a whole lot of neighbourly love.  We were first introduced to this area by my friend Christina.  She and her then boyfriend bought a really lovely bungalow with lots of charm on a beautifully tree-lined street.  Serendipitously we found our dream home on the same street a few years later.  I felt reassured that having a good friend down the street was going to be enough for us to get integrated.  We never dreamed of feeling like a part of such a community here.

I come from an apartment/condo background, so befriending the neighbours wasn't a huge priority for me.  But I've come to realise that "location location location" is only a small part of the whole package.  We have been blessed with some incredible neighbours who have become such a big part of our joy and our lives.  We are in other's homes all the time.  We get together for good walks and treats in the afternoons.  We look after each other in ways that are more immediate and personal than what family or close friends can do.

In our isolated society where messaging mediums are preferred methods of communication, it's nice to look out the window and see our neighbours milling about chatting, playing, laughing and just living in a more social and open way that used to be considered the norm in decades past.  Let's continue to keep this vibe alive so that more streets and neighbourhoods become real communities.

Here is neighbourly love at its best...
