Wallflower Vintage Presents: The Spruce Girls

"Spruce Girls" wore bathing suits made from spruce veneer during 1929's "Wood Week" in Washington State.

Thin sliced veneer is exceptionally pliable and durable, so much so that one can sew pieces together to create interesting fashions. Not sure how practical veneer bathing suits are - indeed, the idea never took off - was it, perhaps, the splinters?
